Barbie gets a new house – if you build it they will come

Zubedeh is the only girl at Atin, and for Christmas as part of the gift exchange she got a set of goggles for swimming. I so wanted to give her a doll from the vast collection I brought from the donations from home, but  didn’t know how to single her out for something more girlie. After all this is one tough little girl (she plays cards like a MAN, not a boy, a MAN). I didn’t even know if she would be interested in a doll.

So the next day, Chelsea and I were having lunch at our fav local joint and she told me that Z had built a doll house beside the chicken coop complete with cloth covered sofa and chairs, table, outdoor kitchen and small curtain for separating the two rooms. She noticed Z had even been cooking in the outdoor kitchen area.

I asked if she had a doll, and was surprised she was acting so “girlie”. Chelsea said she didn't have a doll for her and I said that i had a solution to that. I immediately went home and found one of the Barbie's from the donation from the Thomsons. Ally and Sarah you have made a little girl here in Uganda so happy!

The house has an outdoor seating area,
